VALSE WAND/ FALSE WALL
The inner yard and the oldest building of Voorkamer reminds in some aspects parts of Arsenale in Venice and is excellent for putting up installations using false new walls and including old floors, ceilings and brick walls in decay. There was a lot of cleaning up to be done. Two false walls of MDF-boards were nicely fit in a small room on the ground floor, giving me a perfect corner and leaving an original ochre plastered wall and the entrance door and the window as it was. A single bulb was dangling from the ceiling so it was decided to install four neon tubes that would brighten the space making no shadows. Into this ambience I took great pleasure in setting up the things I had brought and some items found among the great heaps of trash that filled whole rooms in the darker parts of the building. Soon the other participants arrived and the whole place was trembling with ongoing activity, both inside and outside, and on the upper floors. In the other buildings there were rooms for offices, video-projections and larger installations. There was also a small kitchen and a fridge with free beer and vine for us all. There was no abuse during the work.

When a new experiment is started
a whole world of possibilities lies ahead. You know that by initiating it, the variations will multiply rapidly. Insignificant pieces of wood, plywood, iron rods and glass are collected and put together, mostly without knowing what will be the result. Single objects find a way to coexist in a kind of vulnerable harmony. Their instability is an expression of the general, fragile, temporary presence. Indeed, these installations often collapse before they can be documented with the digital camera. But some survive for a few minutes or seconds enough for a snapshot.
I like to build and rebuild; to form structures and let them develop freely, see them succumb spontaneously and then re-emerge as totally different systems.
I am not trying to postpone the inevitable or prolong any illusion of stability. The result of my work should be understood as proposals, not final statements.

JUST BEFORE CRASH (klick here)
The installations that I build and tear down are similar to games of chess. I use mostly the same pieces for new combinations. My pleasure is to find new solutions for the different elements to act together within the limited space of a naked corner in my studio. I propose solutions, and let the onlooker imagine further steps for his own satisfaction.
